What to do if you suspect you are under surveillance

Esoteric recommends following the procedure below if you suspect you are being 'bugged' or are the subject of surveillance or eavesdropping operations:

1. Contact the team at Esoteric. We offer a specialist counter surveillance service. You must make this call away from the targeted office or area if using the telephone. Esoteric recommends use of a randomly selected payphone 10-15 minutes away from the targeted site. Many TSCM sweeps have been compromised by clients who call from the suspected premises.

2. Be prepared to engage our services quickly, at initial contact. Moving quickly to identify listening devices and bugs is important. Try to keep the area occupied until Esoteric arrives.

3. It is a known fact that bugs are often planted internally by members of staff. The issue should be kept confidential and not be discussed with any members of staff within the suspected bugged area of the workplace. If those who planted the bug suspect a TSCM specialist is being engaged, they will go to extraordinary lengths to recover their devices before they are found.

4. Attempting to locate any listening devices or bugs yourself could cause further disruption or ruin evidence. Do not make attempts to locate bugs yourself.

5. Decide in advance what action you would take in the event of a bugging device being found. There would usually be three main approaches to take:

a. Eliminate/demolish the bugging device
b. Seek to catch the eavesdropper, leading to the option to pursue criminal charges
c. Supply misinformation to the device and monitor for results

6. Tell only a minimum number of trusted people about your engagement of Esoteric, TSCM (bug sweeping) experts.

7. Consider engaging Esoteric to conduct regular sweeps and to protect the integrity of your meeting rooms and workplace.
