Company X, a FTSE 100 company, carried out a routine bi-annual inspection of its senior management office suites as part of a proactive ongoing technical inspection programme.
During the course of the inspection, an eavesdropping device was found concealed in the roof space above a suspended ceiling directly above the boardroom.
Attached to the device was a battery power pack. Technical specialists from Esoteric installed a covert camera system. A few days later the facilities manager for the company was observed on camera replacing the batteries in the device. He later admitted to installing the device on behalf of a director within the company who felt he was being excluded by the board on a number of key decisions.
In this particular incident there was no known loss of revenue to the business, however, if an inspection had not been carried out then it is likely that either a loss of revenue or the company's reputation would have been affected.
